One evening, during one of our regular extensions, it was announced to the Wesley Girls’ High School Robotics team that an initiative to train the team was being launched. A lot of thoughts rushed into my head. “What is this about?” “Isn’t this going to be too stressful?” “Will I be able to combine it with my academics and extensions?” “What if I don’t qualify?” I know these were a lot of possibilities, but one thought stood out: This is a golden opportunity I cannot let pass me by.
All of a sudden, new thoughts began to swirl in my head: “I can do this.” “I must make the most out of this opportunity.” “This is going to be a great chance to improve myself and gain more skills.” There and then, my mind was made up. I was going to be part of this program…..This is how I found out about Coders Who Travel Inc. (also known as The Coders Who Travel Foundation ) , and everything that has happened since has transformed me significantly.
Fast forward, I registered to be part of the Career Coaching Bootcamp with Coders Who Travel. We had our kickoff meeting on September 30, 2025, after previously having an introductory session where the meeting plan, our instructor, and co-instructors were introduced. From that moment, I knew there was no turning back. I felt excited but also nervous. Was I ready? Would I be able to keep up? But my curiosity was stronger than my fears. My eagerness to learn outweighed every doubt I had.
As the first part of this training program comes to an end, after about 21 meetings with our instructor, Ms. Afia Owusu-Forfie , and our co-instructors, Angela Azumah Alu, PhD and Ms. Nah-Abiah A. , I can confidently say I have learnt a lot.
Prominent among them was;
● RESUME CREATION
During these lessons, I learnt a lot about resumes. I created a resume for the first time in my life and it was reviewed by my instructors and I was given tips and pointers as to how to make a better one. Taking these into account I made a better resume that I am proud of.
● INTERVIEW TIPS AND STIMULATION
Here, I was given the opportunity to participate in a mock interview after being prepared by my instructors on how to prepare for an interview and how to get through one. This taught me a lot and now I can confidently say I can go through an interview without breaking a sweat
● LINKEDIN PROFILES
These sessions focused on how to create a LinkedIn profile and how to make the best out of a LinkedIn Profile. Here, I found myself creating a LinkedIn account which was also reviewed by my Instructors, and I was given tips on how to make my profile better. Now I have a LinkedIn profile that is active and growing thanks to my Instructors.
● JOB AND SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
I was equipped with knowledge on how to apply to schools abroad and local ones too. I was exposed to various school options. I got to know what it takes to make scholarships and attitudes I must adapt to be a better student. Also, I got to know how to apply for jobs and how to make cover letters and how to use ai to help with job searches.
● BUSINESS PROMOTION
Here, I was taught how to use some applications and tools like Google Mail Videos, PowerPoint, LinkedIn on how to promote your business virtually and give your business a good look or a good first-time impression virtually.
● MIND MAPS
I learnt how to make mind maps, which contains brief insights into my personality, my hobbies, skills and achievements. I really had fun making my mind map which really told my story in a unique, visual way.
These are just a few important things among the many skills and lessons I've learnt from Coders who Travel and this just goes on to show how much of an impact this program has had on me.
When I joined Coders Who Travel, I didn’t just join a program, I started a journey that has been transformative, educative, fun, and enlightening. To be honest, it hasn’t been easy. There were days I struggled to keep up with assignments and meet deadlines, days I had to balance robotics extensions, regular schoolwork, and Coders Who Travel meetings all at once. There were days when I was too tired to even keep my eyes open, days when the internet connection made it almost impossible to have a meeting, days I fell sick, and days when I was simply overwhelmed and felt like giving up.
But through it all, I am grateful. Grateful to Coders Who Travel for believing in young students like me and bringing this golden opportunity our way. Grateful to my instructors for their patience, guidance, understanding, and constant encouragement. Grateful to my team members for making the journey less lonely and for their support and help. And grateful to myself for not giving up, even when things were tough. Most importantly, I am grateful to God for opening doors that once felt impossible and giving me strength to continue when my own human strength was not enough.
Looking back on this journey, I’m proud of myself for not giving up when things got tough, because the lessons and skills I’ve gained from this program are worth every struggle. After all, growth is never comfortable. This program has taught me to be more organized, to dream bigger, to challenge myself, to be more creative, more responsible, more focused on my goals, more confident in my abilities, and more determined to pursue a future where I can inspire and help other young girls and coders who also have a dream.
Even though I am concluding this blog as the first part of this training program comes to an end, this is only the beginning of my story; the story of a girl who has been empowered to lead, who dreams beyond borders, and who is determined to make an impact wherever she goes.
