Coders Who Travel Incorporated (also known as The Coders Who Travel Foundation ) is an organization dedicated to educating young people and equipping them with essential career development skills and coding abilities.
The primary aim of the program is to prepare participants for the modern workforce by providing practical technology training, career guidance, and soft skill development. By combining these elements, the program helps young individuals gain the knowledge and competencies necessary to succeed in various professional fields and adapt to a rapidly changing job market.
The program was introduced to me by my team patron, Mr. Isaac Nzoley one evening. It officially commenced on 30th September 2025. On the first day, a comprehensive kick-off session was conducted. During this session, the Founder, Ms. Afia Owusu-Forfie , and the Co-Instructors, Angela Azumah Alu, PhD and Mrs. Nah-Abiah A. , introduced themselves, clarifying their respective roles in guiding participants throughout the program.
All participants formally introduced themselves, and the objectives, expectations, and structure of the program were thoroughly explained. The trainees received an official briefing from Ms. Afia Owusu-Forfie, setting the foundation for an engaging and productive learning experience.
After the kick-off session, we moved into training on résumé and CV creation. We were taught how to develop well-organized résumés that highlight our skills, achievements, and experiences professionally. The instructors guided us on key elements such as formatting, using action verbs, tailoring our documents to specific roles, and avoiding common errors. After submission, our résumés were reviewed, and the detailed feedback helped us understand how to improve clarity, structure, and overall presentation. This session emphasized the importance of effectively presenting oneself in written form to prospective employers.
Following the résumé and CV session, we participated in a session on interview guidelines. This session focused on how to conduct ourselves during interviews, respond confidently, communicate clearly, and present our strengths effectively. We were also trained on strategies such as maintaining good posture, preparing in advance, researching the organization, and demonstrating professionalism throughout the interview process. Practical exercises and mock scenarios allowed us to apply these skills, helping to build confidence and reduce anxiety during real interviews.
In the subsequent weeks, we were assigned to prepare presentations summarizing the lessons learned so far in the Coders Who Travel program. Each trainee created a presentation covering résumé writing, interview skills, and professional development topics. These presentations were delivered before the instructors, after which we received constructive feedback. The reviews highlighted our strengths and suggested improvements, helping us develop confidence, organization, and clarity in our communication.
After the presentations, we had a detailed session on LinkedIn profile creation and management. We were taught how to set up a professional account, create a compelling headline, write an engaging “About” section, and showcase our experiences and achievements. Additional guidance included uploading certificates, connecting with professionals, and maintaining an active presence on the platform. The instructors emphasized LinkedIn’s importance in career development, networking, and building a professional digital identity, reinforcing how online presence complements in-person skills.
The program also included guidance on academic planning, where we were educated on selecting schools and understanding different academic paths. This included exploring the differences between degrees, diplomas, and certifications, as well as the importance of choosing programs that align with our career goals, personal strengths, and long-term objectives. This session helped clarify how education choices impact career development and encouraged thoughtful decision-making for the future.
We were introduced to Mind Maps, learning how to create them effectively and understanding their benefits. Mind Maps aid in brainstorming, organizing information, improving memory retention, and planning tasks efficiently. We practiced developing Mind Maps for various topics, strengthening our ability to break down complex ideas visually and logically, and improving problem-solving and productivity skills.
Most recently, we explored blogs, including their purpose, applications, and professional relevance. We learned how blogs can serve as tools for communication, education, self-expression, and career development. This session emphasized using written content to share knowledge, engage an audience, and develop digital literacy. The training also highlighted how blogging can enhance personal branding and create opportunities in professional contexts.
In conclusion, my journey with Coders Who Travel Incorporated has been an inspiring and transformative learning experience. The program has sharpened my technical abilities, enhanced my career readiness, and built my confidence to face real-world opportunities. Each session, assignment, and presentation contributed to my personal and professional growth.
I am deeply grateful for the guidance, support, and dedication of the founder and all instructors who mentored us throughout the program. Special appreciation goes to Miss Afia Owusu-Forfie (Founder), Ms. Angela Azumah-Alu, and Ms. Na Abia Alhassan for their expertise, encouragement, and commitment to our learning. Their mentorship has had a lasting impact on my development and has motivated me to strive for excellence in my career journey.
