My Unexpected Journey with Coders Who Travel Inc.: A Fashion Designer Learning to Think Like a Global Creative

Afia Nyamekye Agyei Sika : When I first joined Coders Who Travel Inc. (also known as The Coders Who Travel Foundation , I wasn’t sure what to expect. After all, I’m a fashion designer, not a programmer. My world has always been filled with fabrics, silhouettes, colours, and runway imagination. But deep inside, I’ve always known that creativity has no boundaries — and that the best artists are the ones willing to explore new spaces. What I didn’t know was that joining this community would become one of the most empowering decisions I’ve made for my personal growth, confidence, and professional development.

A Fashion Designer in a Tech World — And Somehow It Felt Right

Walking into a community filled with coders felt like stepping onto a different runway. Everyone spoke the language of logic, structure, and systems — a sharp contrast to the fluid creativity I’m used to. But instead of feeling out of place, I felt welcomed.Coders Who Travel reminded me that we all share something powerful: the desire to learn, grow, and become better versions of ourselves.

Skills I Didn’t Know I Needed — Until They Transformed Me

I joined as a fashion designer. But this community helped me grow into a more strategic, confident, and organized creative. They ( Afia Owusu-Forfie , Nah-Abiah A. & Angela Azumah Alu, PhD ) taught me how to:

  • Create a strong résumé
  • Prepare for interviews with clarity and confidence
  • Deliver engaging presentations
  • Think through mind-mapping

Where Travel Meets Creativity

Even though I’m not a coder, being in a community of travelers and thinkers expanded my worldview. Their stories, their courage, and their mindset pushed me to realize that creativity isn’t only about the work we produce — it’s also about the places we allow our minds to travel.Coders Who Travel showed me that you don’t need to board a plane to grow. Sometimes growth is simply joining the right community — one that teaches, supports, and believes in you.

A New Chapter for Me

Today I feel more confident, more structured, and more globally minded as a designer. I still love my fabrics, sketches, and runway dreams — but now I also understand the importance of communication, organization, and personal branding.Coders Who Travel didn’t change my career path. They strengthened it. They showed me how to combine creativity with strategy, passion with professionalism, fashion with future-thinking.I may not be a coder, but I’m definitely a creative who has learned to travel — mentally, professionally, and personally.cc: Afia Owusu-Forfie , Angela Azumah Alu, PhD , Nah-Abiah A. , Prince Boadu, CSCP, CMILT , Sarah Osei , Asma M.
