My name is Lois Ahenfo, and my journey with Coders Who Travel has helped me grow both academically and personally. This nonprofit connects experienced tech professionals around the world with young people in Africa who want to learn programming, analytics, and career development. Through this program, I have gained practical skills and a better understanding of how to prepare for real-world opportunities.

I also had the opportunity to learn about the founder, Afia Owusu-Forfie, a Ghanaian-American computer scientist, statistician, and data analytics consultant. She is the Founder of Coders Who Travel Inc. and has built both a professional career and a social-impact mission. What makes her unique is how she combines technology, education, leadership, and creativity to inspire young people.

Skills and Experience

Through STEM activities, I have worked with Arduino, Spike, and EV3 kits. These experiences have strengthened my problem-solving skills, teamwork, and confidence in applying technology practically.

Resume and Cover Letter Writing

I learned how to create a clear and professional resume by using strong action words and proper structure. I also gained knowledge on writing concise and effective cover letters.

A cover letter is a short, personalized document that explains:

  • Why you are interested in the position
  • Why you are a good fit
  • The skills and experiences you have that match the role
  • Why you should be selected

It is more personal than a resume and allows you to express your motivation and highlight the most important parts of your background in a clear and professional way.

Interview Skills and Professionalism

The program taught me how to communicate clearly and present myself confidently during interviews. I also learned the importance of professional dressing, such as maintaining a neat appearance.

The STAR method has helped me structure my answers effectively:

  • Situation – describing the context
  • Task – explaining your responsibility
  • Action – what you did
  • Result – the outcome

This approach helps me talk about my experiences clearly and professionally.

LinkedIn Development

One of the most valuable skills I gained is how to build a strong and professional LinkedIn presence. I now understand its importance as a tool for personal and career growth.

I learned how to create a clear and attractive profile, write a strong headline and summary, and present my skills effectively. I can also showcase my achievements and build a professional network. As a result, my profile is now more polished and better reflects my goals and potential.

Conclusion

Overall, Coders Who Travel has helped me build confidence, discipline, and professionalism. I am motivated to continue improving myself and applying these skills in future opportunities.
