My Experience in the Career Guidance Course by Coders Who Travel Inc.

As a student passionate about both art and technology, I (Maame Abena Nyamekye) often wondered how to connect my creativity with real career opportunities. Joining the Career Guidance Course by Coders Who Travel Inc. (also known as The Coders Who Travel Foundation) became a turning point for me. 

The program equipped me with practical skills from building resumes to preparing for interviews, improving my LinkedIn presence, and understanding university opportunities abroad. This blog shares everything I learned and how it is shaping my future.

💼 1. Creating an Effective Resume 

Before the course, I thought a resume was simply a list of everything I had ever done. But I learned that the best resumes are:  

• Clear 
• Simple 
• Tailored to a specific opportunity 
• Focused on strengths and achievements 

I now understand how to use strong action verbs, highlight relevant experience, and keep the format clean and professional. 

📝 2. Writing a Strong Cover Letter 

A cover letter is your voice on paper, and I finally learned how to make it sound confident and intentional. 

Key things I learned:  

• Start with a strong opening sentence 
• Connect your skills to what the organization needs 
• Be specific, honest, and professional 

This topic helped me understand how to introduce myself in a meaningful way. 

🎤 3. How to Present Myself During Interviews 

This session was one of the most helpful. We practiced real interview scenarios, which gave me confidence and reduced my nervousness. 

Important lessons:  

• Prepare stories that highlight your abilities 
• Take your time before answering 
• Maintain good eye contact 
• Ask thoughtful questions at the end 

Now, interviews feel less scary and more like conversations. 

🔗 4. Building a Strong LinkedIn Profile 

A LinkedIn profile is like a digital portfolio. During the course, I learned how to:  

• Write a professional headline 
• Create a strong “About Me” section 
• Add projects, skills, and volunteer experiences 
• Connect with mentors and professionals 

Now my LinkedIn page reflects who I am and what I’m passionate about. 

🌎 5. Choosing Universities Abroad 

This topic opened my eyes to what really matters when selecting a school:  

• Support for students with diverse interests 
• Available scholarships and financial aid 
• Opportunities for growth 
• Student support systems 

I learned to choose a university not just for the name, but for how well it fits my goals.

The Career Guidance Course by Coders Who Travel has been inspiring and eye-opening. I gained practical, long-term skills that will guide me through school, applications, and future jobs.
