Okay, so let me paint you a picture.
There I was—a student and member of my school's robotics team—thinking my biggest challenge would be surviving assignments and deadlines. Then, out of nowhere, our team was introduced to something I didn't even know I needed: the Coders Who Travel Program.
Let me tell you, the sessions were packed with valuable lessons. We covered:
Every single session felt like someone was finally handing me the manual for navigating the professional world. It wasn't just theory—it was practical, relevant, and full of things I could immediately apply.
Now here's the part where I have to be honest: the mock interview.
Even though it was online, I was nervous. Like, palms-a-little-sweaty, am I really ready for this? nervous.
There's something about someone asking, "Tell me about yourself" that suddenly makes you forget everything about yourself.
But here's what I realized in that moment: being nervous doesn't mean you're not ready. It means you care. And caring is actually a good thing.
The program helped me understand that interviews aren't interrogations—they're conversations. Once that clicked, everything felt a little less intimidating.
I won't lie; I probably stumbled over a word or two. But I got through it, and I came out the other side knowing exactly what I needed to improve. That's the whole point, isn't it?
What surprised me most about Coders Who Travel wasn't just the knowledge—it was the confidence it quietly built in me.
Before the program, the professional world felt like this big, intimidating place that I wasn't quite ready for. After it, I felt like I at least knew where the door was and how to knock on it properly.
As a student in Ghana, opportunities like this don't always land in your lap. I'm genuinely grateful that my robotics team made it possible for us to participate because this kind of guidance—the kind that teaches you how to present yourself, tell your story, and walk into a room (virtual or physical) with confidence—is priceless.
If you're a student wondering whether programs like Coders Who Travel are worth it, my answer is simple: yes. A hundred times yes.
You might go in thinking it's just another workshop. You'll come out with a polished résumé, a LinkedIn profile you're actually proud of, and the confidence to survive a job interview without completely blanking out.
Ask me how I know?
To the Coders Who Travel team, thank you for showing up for students like me. We see the effort, and we appreciate it more than you know.
