I ( Angela Thompson ) had the opportunity to meet Miss Afia Owusu-Forfie in May 2024. It was my brother who introduced her to me after letting him know my interest in technology. Our first meeting was held virtually through Google. After that meeting, I had more insights on what I knew and was also introduced to lots.
I was then introduced to The Coders Who Travel Foundation as an intern. In the first few months, I was added to the course development team. There, I was taught how to compress long videos into less than ten minutes videos, generate and edit captions with the help of Mr. Ebenezer Teye and others.
I was able to excel in this with the help of the knowledge I gained. I was able to create monthly welcoming post after discussing with the President of Coders Who Travel Incorporation, Afia Owusu-Forfie the essence of such posts. I started posting them on social media handles after gaining permission from Miss Owusu-Forfie.
In November 2024, at a program hosted by Coders Who Travel (Nana Yere Legacy), I was allowed to share my story in order motivate other young people. I would want to share something small from that story: Though I had interest in Technology I was asked to pursue some other courses.
Before the interview, Dr. Angela Azumah Alu, PhD helped me. I was seeing myself as a girl with a problem of public speaking, but Miss Owusu-Forfie and Dr. Azumah Alu were seeing a young lady with talent in me. We had a wonderful program that day.
While I was still on the training with Coders Who Travel Inc., I encountered some personal issues. Though they were my problems, Afia took it upon herself to support me in everything. Her advice made me feel like I had no reason to worry and at the urge of giving up, she encouraged me more. She enrolled me in a career coaching course through which I was taught a lot.
We were introduced to writing Resumes or the Curriculum Vitae by Angela Azumah Alu, PhD and how to interview with Mrs. Nah-Abiah A. . Earlier, we knew resumes were just documents that highlight education, work, experience, and other important things like birth dates but that was not just that. Now we the learners can boldly point out mistakes in CVs. We also learnt about LinkedIn accounts by Afia Owusu-Forfie . I had an account but did not know how to go about it, but I am still under training.
I almost gave up due to some unforeseen circumstances but thanks to God and Miss Owusu-Forfie for helping me cope with the others anyways. To me The Coders Who Travel Foundation is as a family.
