Monica Harding : Studying with the noble organization of dedicated coaches, mentors and judges led by Madam Afia Owusu-Forfie known as Coders Who Travel Inc., I have imbibed a lot of diverse information I believe I can apply and implement in my endeavours and journey in becoming a successful intern and computer engineer.
I, Monica Nana Ama Harding, have learnt a lot; from creating resumes and cover letters, creating an appropriate LinkedIn profile, interview tips, how to create mind maps and vlogs for applications for internship to capturing formal videos for interviews. Below is a detailed discussion of each core topic covered in the program.
A résumé is often the first document an employer sees, and CWT teaches students how to make that first impression count. Learners are guided on how to highlight key achievements, list experiences clearly, and use action verbs that show impact, such as developed, organized, or led. The program emphasizes tailoring each résumé to the specific job being applied for, ensuring relevance and clarity. Students also learn about proper formatting, spacing, and structure to make their résumés easy to read and visually appealing. By the end of the lesson, they understand how to present themselves professionally on paper.
Interviews can be nerve-wracking, but CWT helps students build the confidence they need to succeed. The lessons focus on understanding the company before the interview, practising responses to common questions, and learning how to communicate skills clearly. Students are taught the importance of body language, punctuality, and professional etiquette. They also learn how to ask thoughtful questions that show genuine interest in the role. CWT encourages students to view interviews not just as tests, but as conversations that highlight their potential and personality.
In the modern job market, LinkedIn acts as a living résumé and professional brand. CWT teaches students how to craft a strong profile starting with a clean photograph, a compelling headline, and a clear summary that reflects their goals and personality. Students learn to showcase their projects, certifications, achievements, and volunteer work. They also discover how to connect meaningfully with professionals, join industry communities, and share content that grows their visibility. With these strategies, learners understand how LinkedIn can open opportunities long before they graduate.
A cover letter allows students to tell their story in a personal and persuasive way. CWT’s lessons guide learners on how to introduce themselves confidently, explain their motivation for applying, and match their skills to the job description. Students are encouraged to write in a warm but professional tone that reflects enthusiasm and commitment. They also learn how to structure their letters effectively, that is starting with an engaging introduction, followed by a clear explanation of their experience, and ending with a strong closing statement. This prepares them to write letters that stand out from the competition.
Choosing a university is a significant decision that shapes a student’s future. CWT helps learners think critically about their options by exploring factors such as academic programs, campus environment, career support services, and financial opportunities. Students are guided to reflect on their long-term goals, preferred learning styles, and personal interests. The lessons emphasize balance that involves choosing a school that not only offers strong academics but also supports emotional, social, and career growth. This approach leads to well-informed decisions that set students up for long-term success.
CWT provides career coaching to help students understand themselves and the world of work. Through coaching, learners identify their strengths, interests, and personality traits. They explore different career paths and receive guidance on building short- and long-term career plans. Coaches help students gain clarity, improve decision-making skills, and build confidence. The result is a strong sense of direction and a better understanding of how to reach their professional goals.
Mind mapping is an effective technique taught by CWT to help students organize ideas, break down complex topics, and plan projects. These visual diagrams encourage creativity and help learners see connections between concepts. Students use mind maps to study, brainstorm, plan essays, prepare for interviews, or organize daily tasks. The method improves memory, clarity, and problem-solving abilities. By practicing mind mapping, learners become more efficient thinkers and more organized students.
Through these lessons, CWT equips students with essential tools that prepare them for both academic and professional life. From crafting résumés to making university choices and planning careers, each topic helps students build confidence, clarity, and the skills they need to move forward successfully. These lessons work together to shape well-rounded individuals who are ready to take advantage of opportunities in a competitive world.
